Periodontal disease treatment PERIODONTAL

Symptoms of Periodontal Disease

Periodontal disease is a very scary disease that progresses over time without you realizing it.By the time symptoms appear, the infected tooth is often already severely affected. In most cases, the infection does not stop at one tooth, but also affects other teeth. In severe cases, it may be difficult to save a tooth, so several teeth may have to be extracted.

Causes of periodontal disease

The cause of periodontal disease is "periodontal bacteria." Periodontal bacteria attach to the teeth, multiply, and create plaque. In order to suppress the proliferation of periodontal bacteria, it is important to control plaque by brushing, using interdental brushes, and using dental floss. It is also necessary to have a professional clean the areas that you cannot control plaque on your own..

The symptoms of periodontal disease are different from those of tooth decay:Even if it progresses, there is almost no pain, and the gums may bleed slightly when brushing. Therefore, many people do not realize that they have periodontal disease, and the condition progresses without them realizing. This is why it is important to detect it early through regular checkups.

How to check for periodontal disease

Roentgen test

X-rays are taken to examine the area around the tooth, especially the roots and their relationship to the bone, which cannot be seen with the naked eye.

Periodontal tissue examination

We will check the condition of your gums, bones, etc. Items to be checked are as follows:

  • Periodontal pocket measurement
Measure the depth of the periodontal pockets between the teeth and gums.
  • Bleeding gum test
Check for bleeding when measuring the pocket.
  • Tooth mobility test
Check the degree of tooth movement.
  • Furcation inspection
This test checks whether there is any disease in the area where the tooth roots are separated.
  • Plaque score
Check the degree of plaque control.

Symptom-specific treatment for periodontal disease

Mild periodontal disease

This patient has gingivitis and mild periodontitis. We will provide plaque control guidance to improve oral hygiene and remove tartar.

  • Plaque control (tooth brushing instruction, health guidance)
  • Removal of tartar above the gum line

★★moderate periodontal disease

We provide plaque control guidance to improve oral hygiene and remove tartar from between the teeth and gums. We also use special tools to smooth the tooth surfaces to prevent tartar from building up on them.

  • Removal of plaque between teeth and gums
  • Root Planing

★★★severe periodontal disease

We provide guidance on plaque control to improve oral hygiene, as well as surgery to remove tartar (flap surgery) and surgery to regenerate periodontal tissues such as the alveolar bone and periodontal ligament (periodontal tissue regeneration therapy).

  • Plaque control (tooth brushing instruction, health guidance)
  • Periodontal surgery

Flap surgeryPeriodontal tissue regeneration therapy

Once treatment is over...Re-examination after treatment

Once treatment is complete, you will be re-examined to check your healing progress.

  • Periodontal tissue examination
  • Roentgen test

Ongoing medical check-upsMaintenance/SPT

If there are no problems after the re-examination, you will move into the maintenance period. Regular checkups will be performed approximately every 3 to 6 months.
