DENTAL TREATMENT

Cavity treatment

The treatment method, duration, and cost for cavity treatment vary depending on the stage of the cavity.

The most important thing about tooth decay is to detect it early and get it fixed.

INTRODUCTION

The most important thing about tooth decay is to detect it early and get it fixed.

Tooth decay is a disease that dissolves teeth. The causative bacteria in the mouth, called Streptococcus mutans, feeds on food debris and produces plaque, which then dissolves our teeth with the acid produced by the plaque. If the cavity is very small in the early stages, it can be cured (remineralized) by brushing, but if the symptoms progress, it cannot be improved without treatment, and it is a disease that will not heal naturally.

Progression of tooth decay and treatment methods

C0| Decalcification

Decalcification

A condition in which the enamel on the surface of the teeth is slightly dissolved and appears cloudy. There are no subjective symptoms such as pain. It can be cured (remineralized) by brushing properly.

Regular checkups and brushing can help remineralize your teeth.

C0 is a state where there are few caries bacteria and the teeth can be remineralized. However, there is a risk that remineralization will not occur and the teeth will progress to C1 (enamel caries), so you should maintain the C0 state by visiting the dentist regularly.

C1| Enamel caries

Tooth enamel caries

The enamel has dissolved and the surface of the tooth has turned black. There are no subjective symptoms such as pain yet. The cavity is treated by scraping the tooth and filling it with plastic (resin).

Early treatment allows for less pain

Treatment for C1 is almost painless as only the surface of the tooth is scraped slightly. Treatment beyond C1 requires anesthesia, so early detection and early treatment are the most important.

C2|Dentin caries

Dentin caries

A state in which tooth decay has progressed to the dentin inside the enamel. When you eat cold or sweet foods, your teeth will feel sensitive and painful. Treatment is to grind down the decayed area and fill it with a filling (inlay).

If you are in pain, please see a doctor as soon as possible.

This is tooth decay that occasionally causes pain in daily life. If it progresses further and causes chronic pain, the number of treatments required will increase significantly, so we recommend that you see a dentist as soon as possible.

C3| Tooth decay that has reached the nerve

Tooth decay that has reached the nerve

A state in which the decay has reached the nerve. You will feel a throbbing pain even if you are not doing anything. Treatment is performed to remove the nerve (root canal treatment), and a crown is placed to restore function.

Don't endure the pain, come see us

This is the state where the bacteria has reached the nerve (tooth pulp). If left untreated, pus will form at the base of the tooth, requiring long-term treatment.

C4| Cavities that have reached the tooth root

Decay that has reached the tooth root

The nerve has died and the decay has reached the tooth root. If a crown cannot be placed, the tooth will need to be extracted and implant treatment, bridge treatment, or denture treatment will be required.

Not only can it cause tooth decay, it can also affect the whole body.

If the nerve (tooth pulp) is dead, there will be no pain, but this does not mean the tooth has been cured. If left untreated, bacteria may reach the jawbone, causing high fever or other illnesses.
